On my way to grab a heavily caloric muffin a few days ago as a splurge, instead I decided to try a new place in town called Soul Bowlz. I had planned on featuring it for several weeks, but just hadn’t made it in yet. With a few minutes on my hands, I decided it was time.
The owner of Soul Bowlz, Lori, and her husband own a surf and skate shop in Gulf Shores. Avid surfers, they visit California once a year for vacation. While there, Lori had a fruit bowl similar to what she serves now. She decided she had to learn how to make one so she could enjoy one when she returned home, and voila – Soul Bowlz had begun. She started her first store in the upstairs of the surf shop they own in Gulf Shores. It was a quick hit. So, when looking for her second location, she said Fairhope was an easy choice.
I’m telling you – I’m not a fruit loving person, but I was scraping the bottom of the Mind Bowl that I had that morning. The base of the bowl is a type of sorbet made with Acai berries. On top of that was hemp granola (not sure what the hemp part is, but it was awesome), almonds, and the sweetest strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries. So, head on over to Soul Bowlz, in the purple building right across from the Windmill Market on the corner Bancroft St. and Magnolia Ave. Try one of the acai bowls, or yogurt with fresh fruit, or a smoothie. I promise, you will be glad you did. Stay and relax for a while and enjoy their free wifi.
